Let’s take a look at what makes a perfect 3-day getaway to the Berkshires.
Day 1: Road Trip to the Berkshires
While your ultimate destination is our elegant country retreat, the trip here is half the fun. Feel free to stop and smell the roses along the way. Whether you’re coming from north, south, east, or west, the Berkshire Botanical Garden makes a nice introduction to the beauty of the Berkshires. A leisurely stroll through 24 acres of landscaped grounds and gardens sets the tone for the rest of your day. When hunger strikes, stop into the Once Upon a Table, located on Main Street in Stockbridge just moments away.
Check-In
We welcome guests beginning at 3:00 PM. Kick off your shoes and relax in the comfort of your romantic accommodations. If you’ve opted for a suite or our private cottage, a soak in the spa tub may ease your road-weary bones. A dip in our heated pool might be just as refreshing when weather permits. If you feel the need to stretch your legs a bit, take a walk along our Meadow and Wilderness trails that traverse our 32-acre private property. Or just sit in an Adirondack chair on our expansive lawn and admire the view.
How About a Little Pub Grub
The Barrington Brewery in nearby Great Barrington serves hand-crafted beer and from-scratch pub grub in a charming setting 6 days a week. The menu features an eclectic array of soups, salads, sandwiches, barbeque, and comfort food. Indulge in one of their unfiltered signature ales or seasonal tap brews and let the feeling of vacation wash over you.
Wind Down
After dinner head back to the Inn where you can take a seat in the library, cozy sitting room, or seasonal sunroom. Perhaps you’d like to wander outside and enjoy the comradery of other guests gathered by the firepit. You’re sure to sleep well in your luxurious guest room at the end of the first day of your perfect getaway.
Day 2: Explore the Berkshires
Breakfast of Champions
Wake to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee on your first full day at our Inn. A bountiful breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, and home-baked goods await you in the sun-filled dining room. Soft classical music plays in the background as you feast on the sweet or savory entrée of the day.
Take a Hike
Start the day off right with a hike in the woods to a beautiful waterfall. Bash Bish Falls is a must-do hike in the Berkshires. Twin falls cascade down a granite rockface into a deep pool. But that’s not your only option for an easy to moderate hike. Try a gentle hike around a lake or pond, or go all out to another spectacular waterfall at Stephen’s Glen in West Stockbridge.
Leisurely Lunch in Town
A leisurely lunch in town seems like a fine way to reward your efforts on our hiking trails. Alta in Lenox serves up inspired Mediterranean dishes in a favorite local dining spot. Experience exceptional service and an impressive wine list before heading out for an afternoon at a local museum.
Afternoon Visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum
Norman Rockwell, the iconic American illustrator featured on 323 covers of the Saturday Evening Post, lived and worked in Stockbridge, MA for much of his career. His eponymous museum remains as a showcase for his downhome illustrations of American society. This much-loved museum features a revolving series of exhibitions along with permanent collections and archives.
Fine Dining Adventure
By far the best fine dining experience in Lee, MA, Café Triskele (formerly Chez Nous) prides itself on serving only the finest and freshest ingredients available. Helmed by husband-and-wife team Rebecca and Gilbert Clerget, this European-style bistro and brasserie is a welcome addition to the food scene in the Berkshires. Book a table for two and dine on an eclectic selection of entrees and appetizers with a distinctive French flair.
Day 3: A Fond Farewell
Breakfast Redux
After a great night’s sleep in your comfortable guest room, wake to the smell of what awaits you in the breakfast room. Will it be Chef Jim’s divine Eggs Florentine or something sweet, like maple-glazed French toast or honey-pecan waffles? No matter what’s on the menu this morning, it’s sure to satisfy. Linger over a cup of freshly brewed coffee and admire the magnificent view outside the expansive bay windows before heading back to your room to pack your suitcases.
A Little Retail Therapy
On your way out of town, be sure to allow some time to peruse the lovely shops and boutiques that line the main streets of Lenox and Stockbridge. And if you love outlet shopping, you simply must visit the Lee Premium Outlets. Search for a bargain or uncover a treasured antique to bring home with you. Then stop by the High Lawn Farm for some of the best ice cream in the area or a variety of cheeses for a roadside picnic as you weave your way home.
With memories of your perfect 3-day getaway to the Berkshires fresh in your mind, remember to plan a return visit soon. As the seasons change here, so does the scenery. Fall brings brilliant color to the mountains, and winter carpets them in white snow. When that snow melts in spring, our waterfalls swell to overflowing. The Berkshires, after all, is a 4-season destination with so much to see and do that you’ll want to visit during each one.
